Makar Sankranti Celebrations January 13th to 15th

Makar Sankranti is a harvest festival associated with the movement of the SUN into the Makar Rashi. This festival is celebrated by various names –  Magh Bihu in Assam, Maghi in Punjab, Maghi Saaji in Himachal Pradesh, Maghi Sangrand or Uttarain (Uttarayana) in Jammu, Sakrat in Haryana, Sakraat in Rajasthan, Sukarat in central India, Pongal in Tamil Nadu, Uttarayana in Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh, Ghughuti in Uttarakhand, Dahi Chura in Bihar, Makar Sankranti in Odisha, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa, West Bengal (also called Poush Sankranti or Mokor Sonkranti), Uttar Pradesh (also called Khichidi Sankranti), Uttarakhand (also called Uttarayani) or as simply, Sankranti in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana,  Maghe Sankranti (Nepal) and Shishur Senkrath (Kashmir). On Makar Sankranti, the Sun god is worshipped along with Vishnu and goddess Lakshmi. 

In most regions of India, Sankranti festivities last for two to four days of which each day is celebrated with distinct names and rituals.

Day 3 – Mattu Pongal, Kanuma Panduga

Bhogi Pallu  – Bring your children ..  Bhogi is the first day of the four-day festival. It is celebrated with a bonfire with logs of wood, other solid-fuels, and wooden furniture at home that are no longer useful. In the evening, a ceremony called Bhogi Pallu, fruits of the harvest such as regi pallu and sugarcane are collected along with flowers of the season. Money is often placed into a mixture of treats and is poured over children. The children then collect the money and sweet fruits.

Sri Dattatreya Pallaki Seva : Every day at Ganagapur, Pallaki Seva (Palanquin of the Lord Datta) of the Lord Datta takes place around 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm, The Palanquin Circumambulates the Temple along with Chanting, Singing, and Bhajans, hymns in praise of the Lord Datta and the Devotees performing this seva have an opportunity of sitting in front of the Deity of Shri Datta (Utsav Murti which will be kept in Pallaki) exquisitely decorated with Flowers. Devotees performing the seva take a position of Saashtanga pranama. Pallaki will move on top of them. Devotees feel that all doshas and graha peeda will be cured and ill health will be cured by doing this seva. After the 3 rounds (With Bhajans) around the Sanctum the Utsav Murti is placed inside. Devotees can offer Bhiksha in the form of monetary donations during seva.
We will perform this in Anagha Datta temple on Wednesday the 7th of December at 9pm. Join us in this once a year tradition.

November 8 -Temple closed in the morning

Due to the Lunar Eclipse in the early hours of Nov 8th, the temple will be closed for the ritual cleansing in the morning. This involves abhishek of all the idols in the mandir, however this is not a public event.

Devotees may visit the temple in the evening at 7pm for the evening aarti.

November 7 – Karthika Poornima

On Kartika Poornima, traditionally, devotees light a Diya with 365 wicks. The temple will provide you with the diya with 365 wick, small donation of $21 is requested. This requires a time slot booking and is based on availability. Limited slots and a limited number of diya’s available.
